Manual Testing of Mobile Application

As the number of Android, Windows Phone and iOS smartphones and tablets keeps growing, mobile applications are becoming more and more popular.

The mobile user expects that applications installed are easy, intuitive and work smoothly. Therefore, the quality of the application is of great importance for its popularity.

Testing of Mobile Applications is substantially different from desktop applications testing. Here we present major points that QA engineer should specially concentrate upon:
  • Install and run application, exit application, reopen, remove the application from the mobile device.
  • Multi-touch and screen size. Correctly delete two elements or view two items by tapping them simultaneously. Check double tapping the button - often this can lead to Application fall. There should be no blank screens in the application, so that the user doesn’t get into the situation when it’s not obvious what to do. Furthermore, the size of all items should be enough to tap on them.
  • Stability. Application performance while multiple other applications are running and for a long period of time, as well as in conditions when space for Application installing and operating is not enough. Behavior of the Application if functions supported by the application are missing in the device.
  • Application adaptation to the portrait and landscape orientations.
  • Stress. Application response to external interrupts:
              - incoming / outgoing SMS, MMS, calls, notifications of other applications;
              - switch to the standby mode;
              - device is switched off, discharging;
              - charging;
              - Internet disconnection;
              - switch to another application.
  • Internationalization. Verify correct application performance in different languages (if the application is multi-language).
  • User Feedback. Availability of notification messages if user tries to perform a number of actions (e.g., if user deletes information), as well as availability of progress visual indication. All clickable elements should have "depressed condition" (response to action) - due to this the user will see whether the button was tapped.
  • Update. Correct application updating to a new version.
  • Incorrect spelling.

As Mobile Application Testing experience has proven, the most correct operation of the application can be achieved with manual testing on real mobile devices.

Our QA team has great experience in manual testing of mobile applications performed on both real devices and emulators.
